Mr George Matthai, s/o Late Prof.A.P.Matthai, is an expert on IELTS , Celebrity English and Spoken English. He is a trainer of English since 2000.He believes that the real success of a person depends on his/her ability to handle his/her vernacular and English well.
Institute of English teaches standard English. We have been teaching English for the past several years. Durning this period we have found that most of the students want to learn English but do not have enough time to go to a good institution and learn.
Phonetics is a branch of linguistic science dealing with speech sounds. We earnestly believe that, while speaking we should bother about the sounds produced by our tongue. For example the word “pizza” is pronounced as “peetsa” not pissa. We should not pronounce English words, the way we do the same in our vernacular. Words wrongly pronounced can cause umpteen problems ie:some people don’t know the meaning of certain words, and in their eagerness name their children with wrong words sounding nice to their ears. Similarly one person named his child “Vixen”, you may like to know the meaning of vixen.Vixen means a female fox / an ill tempered woman, the hapless father would have thought that vixen is some name, like a proper noun “Nixon”.
Similarly there are people who use wrong pronunciation which may be embarassing to the hearers, not only that but they may also give a wrong meaning to that word and most probably would not be understood by a native speaker of English.
Even though you may argue that English is a language of communication, what a “Mallu” says need not be understood by a " Tamilian", "Punjabi", "Bengali", "Mumbaiite" or "Delhiite" etc.
Our effort here is to standardize the spoken version of English so as to make English ‘a lingua-franca of Indian languages’. While learning proper pronunciation of English we are also getting ready to link ourselves to the entire world. Right pronunciation can get proper jobs where English is a must.English is used in most of the international institutions. So the study of English with the right pronunciation can give you a head-start in “Campus-Interviews”.
